Herbs for Healthy Mature Skin

Natural products can replace most of the skin-care products that we buy and do a healthy job of protecting and healing our skin.

Below I have listed some beautiful herbs that we are beginning to see more and more of in natural skin-care products that work wonders for mature skin.

Aloe Vera:  Aloe Vera is known for being able to hydrate skin, which makes it a great herb in salves and skin lotions.

Comfrey:   The high degree of mucilage present in the leaf of this herb has been used for healthy skin soothing and softening it.   Allantoin is also an active moisturizing ingredient found in the root of this herb.   Some fantastic reasons to use products with comfrey in them:  The allantoin found in comfrey can help reduce the appearance of fine line and wrinkles.  Comfrey is also great for sensitive skin.

Helichrysum:  Has Emollient actions, which helps to make skin smooth, soft and helps it retain moisture. The oil obtained from this flower is noted to help prevent dehydration and dryness of skin.  The oil has also been found to have anti-aging properties.

Hibiscus:  Hibiscus is known to have powerful anti-aging plant actives and for this reason is sometimes referred to as the ‘Botox plant’. Hibiscus is thought to increase skin elasticity and actively helps the aging process by firming and lifting your skin.  Hibiscus also moisturizes skin as well and is great for dry, mature and combination skin types.

Lady’s Mantle:  Common Lady’s Mantle is a member of the rose family distributed throughout Europe, Asia, North America and elsewhere in cooler regions of the Northern Hemisphere and contain tannins and salicylic acid.  Lady’s Mantle has an abundance of anti-oxidants, which help to prevent aging skin by delaying cell damage.

Marsh Mallow Root:  Marsh mallow is a soothing plant mainly due to its high mucilage content. Some uses for Marsh Mallow Root:  Great for sensitive and dry skin conditions, aging skin, and “angry-skin” conditions.

Rose Hips:  Contains Vitamin A, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin K and Vitamin P.  The oil contained in rosehips has been known to help regenerate skin, reduce wrinkles and nourish skin.

These are just a few of the herbs that are good for mature skin and more importantly WHY they are good for your skin.  We will be doing some more postings on herbs that are good for your skin, for example, herbs that are good as toners, angry-skin conditions, and etc.  Stay tuned for more……
